In view of vast applications fields of control engineering and automation in industries, the group's research work has been very versatile and covered various topics in the past few years. These research topics range from various theoretical ones like "Theory of Optimum Nonlinear and Multivariable Systems", "Control of Rigid and Intelligent Systems" to implication of such analysis and designs in military field, automobile industries, meteorological and power systems. The group's members have conducted joint research programs with Ministry of Electric Power, Department of Self Sufficiency, Ministry of Industries, Meteorological Organization, Research Center of Intelligent Systems, Department of Defense and University Research Center (Jihad), and Monetary and banking Research Academy.

Outcomes of these researches in theoretical & applied fields have been published in more than 120 papers in Scientific Periodicals as well as national conferences, plus several research reports and more than 80 thesis in graduate and postgraduate levels. As for the side activities of the group, we can mention the collaborations made with other departments of the University, both in educational and research areas, such as: "Power Systems Dynamics", "Control of Electric Machine" with Power Group, "Industrial Electronics" with Electronic group and "Robotics" with the Faculty of Mechanics.

The number of students for postgraduate Control Engineering, raised from 8 in 1991-1992 to 35 in 2001-2002, and now, there are 8 Ph.D. students doing their research programs at this University. 37 MS students have successfully terminated their studies and research in some other reputable institutes, both in Iran and abroad. The remainders are now working with various industrial establishments. In addition to the normal academic activities, the control group has also devised special educational programs for engineers who are already working in related industries, and this program has proved to be very popular amongst working engineers.

  • History

The present K. N. Toosi University of Technology has emerged from an amalgamation of nine higher educational centers in 1980 and is now divided into four departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering , and Science. Originally, the university was named as "The University Complex of Technology and Engineering". In 1988, a proposal was submitted to name the University after the famous Iranian philosopher and astronomer, Khajeh Nasiraldin Toosi. The proposal was accepted and from then onward the official name became K. N. Toosi University of Technology. In 1991, Control Engineering was added to the Electrical Engineering Faculty which was also coincided by formation of postgraduate programs in Control Engineering. The groups activities comprised both in educational level for undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. research.

  • Educational Mission and Degree Programs

Automatic control systems program offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees. Every academic year about thirty five undergraduate, fifteen master, and two Ph.D. students are admitted into the program.
