Biography:
I was born on January 27, 1967 in Tehran,
Iran. I am married and have tasted the
smell of heaven through my eleven-years-old daughter, named
Matineh (visit her
photo gallery).
Iran
(Known as Persia) is well known for its fine
persian carpets,
famous Poets (Ferdowsi, Saadi,
Hafez and
Molana,
ancient
Perspolis) and unique Caviar abroad. However, what make me more delighted
in
Iran, is her nice and
friendly people. People who live while possesing their family values and they
are talented
people with hospitality. I have enjoyed teaching students from many
different origins, and I found the Iranian students, talented, with well
prepared background, and usually with nice and friendly behavior.
I have finished my elementary school, in Tehran, stared my secondary in German
School in Tehran (Deutsche Schule Teheran),
and obtained my high school diploma from Shariati High school, Tehran in 1984.
I have obtained my B.Eng. in Mechanical
Engineering from Sharif University
of Technology in 1989. During my studies, I was ranked always the first or
the second student in my class, although I had to work while I am
studying, and I always enjoyed, learning new things. The most gracious thing I
learned during my studies in Tehran, was the ability of analytical thinking,
and the self confidence that: "I can do it, and do it right!". After two years
experience in different sector of industries, and with my background part time
jobs during studies, I planned to continue my education toward Ph.D. in
the field of systems and control. Therefore, I applied at
McGill University, and started my Master's
in Center of Intelligent Machines (CIM).
My thesis was to design and build a one-legged
hopping robot, and
to implement energy-based control algorithms on it. This thesis provides me
with a valuable mechatronics experience, and a good taste of electromechanical
design, and software programming. I decided to continue my Ph.D. at McGill,
but in Electrical Engineering, with the
major of Robust control, the favorite topic of
interest of
Late Prof.
Zames. I enjoyed the teachings of Prof. Belanger,
and
Prof. Zames during my
four year Ph.D. studies, and I graduated from McGill, in 1997. My postgraduate
studies, enforced my previous valuable asset of analytical thinking, and self
confidence, in a more practical manner.
I returned to Iran, and started my career as an assistant professors, in the
Control Group of the
Department of Electrical Engineering of
K.N. Toosi University of Technology. I have enjoyed teaching more than
15 courses,
supervising about 75 thesis, writing two
books and
about ninety
papers
from my research and teaching till now. I had the pleasure to meet many
Professors and students, and the pleasure working with many research teams, in
my university, and
other universities in Tehran
(Sharif,
Amirkabir and
Petroleum Universities of Technologiy). Another
valuable
experience I obtained, was initiation of a research center of excellence named
Advanced Robotics and
Automated Systems (ARAS),
whose name is an acronym of what we are planning to do in it, as well as,
the name of a river in Iran. After eight years of teaching and
research in Iran, I spent my one year Sabbatical leave in McGill University,
and enjoyed working with a group of
researchers at CIM.
